Penelope Umbrico is a photographer/curator that I’m fond of, her work called Suns is a piece where she finds pictures of the sun rising, setting and in the day from people uploading them on Flickr, crops the sun out and makes 4″x6″ size images and puts them all together so there are a lot. At first when she looked at how many pictures there were from the word ‘sunset’ there were 541,795, the last time she checked was on 20/02/2011 where there was 8,730,221 sun picture uploads, this has been getting higher every day.
Another piece of appropriating work is called Doors (from catalogues) where she has take pictures directly from the catalogue where they are showing rooms suites and the door is mostly always open from inside the room where it shows the outside suburban country landscapes, and the dimensions of each photograph corresponds to the actual size of the door in the catalogue.
